Swimming Coach Information

HEAD COACH: Jason McPhee

Jason comes to the Tawa Swimming Club after spending the last four years as Development Coach just up the road at Raumati club.  He lives on the Kapiti Coast with his family.

Coming from a strong sporting family, all members of Jasons’ immediate family have represented NZ in swimming, both in the water and as administrators of the sport.

Competing from an early age, he started out swimming for the Carterton Club and Wairarapa, representing NZ at an Age Group level in 1982.  He was a NAGS medalist and NZ Opens finalist over several years in Breaststroke.  He still holds 6 Wairarapa records dating back over 30 years.

Coincidentally, there is a connection with Tawa going back to the early 1980’s when, due to the lack of a year round training facility in the Wairarapa, winters were spent training at Tawa with Dave Henderson and Alan Wong.

Over the years Jas has enjoyed occasional sojourns back into the pool as both competitor and coach enjoying success at NZ Masters and Emergency Services Games as and when work and family commitments allowed. The opportunity to move into the role of professional coach occurred in 2007 and has afforded him an enormous amount of enjoyment and satisfaction.
