Ben (Benoit) Lavigne began coaching in 1996 in Normandie, France, and has spent the past 30 years helping swimmers in New Zealand and overseas reach their potential. His athletes have set national age group records, won national titles, and, most importantly, discovered a lifelong love of swimming.
Based in Wellington, Ben is passionate about developing strong technique, confidence, and teamwork. He takes pride in creating a positive, motivating environment where swimmers of all levels can improve and enjoy the sport.
Ben holds a High Performance Coaching Qualification from France (2003), specialising in seasonal planning, energy systems, and stroke analysis. He has also trained and mentored new coaches in both New Zealand and France.
Assistant Coach: Lachie Mudie

Lachie’s journey with Tawa Swimming Club began in 2012 when he joined the club as a junior squad swimmer. He has since represented Tawa at both a regional and national level.
Lachie’s connection to Tawa and passion for swimming led him to take up a role as a volunteer coach in 2016. Over the next few years he would work his way up to Bronze Squad coach before leaving to study at Otago University in 2020.
Upon returning to Wellington in 2024, Lachie took up his current role as assistant coach, helping Ben to coach the seniors and overseeing the training and development of our Bronze and Silver squads.
He not only aspires to see athletes achieve at the best of their ability but also to foster an environment where swimmers can learn to love the sport for life.
